finally made it to the weekend...

...and next week I hope to be a bit more on top of the meal planning.

Today started with a serving of Whey Gourmet protein shake, a big mug of coffee and a half cup of yogourt with 100g of strawberries and blueberries on top.Lunch was some of last night's leftovers - the green beans and grilled zucchini on the left and a little of the asian salad on the right. I had brought two hard-boiled eggs but only ate one and then there was 1/2 cup of rhubarb for dessert.
After lunch I went to the patisserie and got an americano...
and a apple-ginger bran muffin. I had this chunk, about three bites or five nibbles on my afternoon break and Doug ate the rest.
Dinner was chef salad. Under that mess is a pile of lettuce, 1/2 a medium tomato, several slices of cucumber, 30g each of roast beef and deli chicken, two hard-boiled eggs, 30g of shredded cheese and some ranch dressing.
Later on we each had a frozen treat. I chose the fudgesicle.
Total calories for the day approximately 1,350 carbohydrates a whopping 73g what with the muffin and all the vegetables. The fudgesicle has about 8g of sugar alcohols which may or may not count.

Asian style on the barbecue

No sausages or bacon in the house so just two fried eggs and coffee.More coffee.
Tuna salad and celery, radish and, if you look closely - jicama.
A little rhubarb for dessert.
Rob and Kama are coming over for dinner. I'm making chicken satay with spicy peanut sauce and plan to grill some zucchini. Kama is making an Asian inspired salad and a tropical fruit salsa.
I start with a glass of wine while fighting the bits of chicken onto skewers.
We had nibblies on the table, I had two sesame sticks and three wasabi peas.
There you have it. Two skewers of chicken with peanut sauce, below is the fruit salsa (mango, pineapple, red pepper and red onion) above is the grilled zucchini and the salad with mixed greens, bean sprouts, strawberry tomatoes, green onion and cashews.
While the boys went back for a third skewer each I had one more bit of chicken (left) and another piece of zucchini - really just as something to smear more of the peanut sauce on...
It was very tasty.
I'm not even going to try and figure the number of calories today. Probably quite high but we were so full from dinner we never did get around to dessert so really, not too bad. Also, once again moments after Kama and Rob left, Brian called. This time to invite us to dinner on Sunday. I guess I better behave tomorrow!

On my own so no real supper

Just one sausage with my two eggs and coffee this morning.Coffee break.
For lunch I had made a wrap with the high-fibre flatbread "Flat-Out". I filled it with slices of deli chicken and roast beef (30g each), cucumber, tomato and lettuce and some mayo. Also had jell-o, that's fruit fiesta not lime flavour. Also 1/2 a bottle of diet Dr. Pepper.
Didn't feel like making dinner since Doug was working till 9pm so I heated up the last of the stew and fished two pieces of jicama and about 80g of meat out of the gravy (and no, I didn't slurp down the gravy afterwards).
The I had one of the no-sugar-added, fat-free, only 40 calories per, fudgsicles.
Still hungry since that didn't really make a dinner so I had some snacks that I had packed for work earlier in the week and never eaten. 30g of almonds and 40g of sharp cheddar cheese.
In spite of not really paying attention to a balanced diet this evening I managed to keep today at 1,402 calories and 42g of carbohydrates.

I scream, you scream - yes there's ice cream!

Breakfast same as yesterday, 2 sausage, 2 eggs and coffee.Didn't manage to get my thermos together this morning so bought an americano from the patisserie.
Lunch was the usual assortment of celery, radish and jicama and a tiny little tin of Ocean's snack'n'lunch - it's really tasty salmon in sesame oil but so little that it really doesn't anchor a lunch. Since I knew that would be the case I also packed a big chunk of my Bresse Bleu (60g) and 100g of strawberries. They were fabulous!
Dinner was not particularly well planned because guess what... Salmon! (137g) and a few mushrooms and side salad.
While in the patisserie today waiting for my coffee I noticed a sale on their single servings of "The Udder Guy's" locally made ice cream. I got the mandarin orange with chocolate flakes for Doug and their Vanilla maltitol for myself. It was very creamy and had little flecks of real vanilla in. Yum.
Totals for today (based on the ice cream being premium and not sugar-free) 1,499 calories and 60g of carbohydrates.

30 pounds in 17 weeks.

I did start watching what I was eating a couple of weeks before I came up with the taking pictures and blogging idea but it looks like I've managed to lose 30 pounds in 4 months (17 weeks to be exact). Yay me!
I know for a fact that being aware and admitting to myself how much I'm putting in my mouth has made a big difference in the portions I take.
The other major difference (from all the other times) is that I'm exercising regularly and have come to enjoy it (or at least the results). Cardio exercise has gone the way of the dodo and I'm now concentrating on strength training. I work hard at it and can get my heart rate higher working on my core than on the stationary bike.
Hmmmm, eat less, exercise more - where have I heard that before?

Not hungry today.

Started with a relatively big breakfast. Doug had just done up a dozen sausages (our own version of heat'n'serve) so I had a couple and two fried eggs and coffee of course.Didn't feel like my coffee at break time - had a diet Dr. Pepper instead.
Lunch was tuna salad, celery and jicama and the last few raspberries with a little coffee cream.
Drank most of my thermos of coffee after lunch.
Dinner was left-over beef stew, again with a piece of carrot and some jicama as well as steamed broccoli. Plus the usual side salad.
That's it - that's all she wrote. I thought about having some cheese and fruit this evening but got busy and just didn't bother. Today only 1,161 calories and 29g of carbohydrate. No one more surprised than me!

A quiet day for a change...

Woke up at 6:30 even though we didn't turn in until midnight last night. Blech. Coffee helped.1/2 cup of yogourt and 1/2 cup rhubarb (prepared with splenda).
Went out to exercise. Haven't been since last Monday because I couldn't get away from work and on Thursday morning when I usually would have gone I was so knackered I just did my core exercises on the living room floor. When I came back I had a piece of cheese.
Did a bit of tidying then decided I really needed something substantial. I had a little piece of steak left over from last night's barbecue so had "Steak and eggs".
Then, since I was still feeling tired and headachey I had another big mug of coffee.
For dinner I had made beef stew with a few pieces of carrots and jicama in place of potatoes. I had 100g of meat, a couple of pieces of carrot and jicama as well as some steamed broccoli and a side salad. I thickened the broth with a little xanthan gum to save carbs and used my hand blender to smooth out the lumps. It was quite tasty.
Still had a headache coming up on 10pm and wondering if it's because I really didn't have very much today. (1,110 calories to this point). Finished off the almonds that were sitting out after yesterday (after weighing them, 40g).
The almonds tasted so good I felt like having a little something more so had 80g of blueberries in 1/2 oz. (1 tablespoon, 15ml) of coffee cream.
Totals for the day 1,411 calories and 42g of carbohydrates.

Another meal out - what's happening?

Began the day with coffee, 1/2 cup of yogourt and 1/2 cup of rhubarb.Went out to my mom's place on my scooter to pick up her mail and water her plants as she's away for awhile. Then headed over to Rob's, traded scooter for car and went barbecue shopping. Got hungry and stopped at the White Spot on Douglas St. but there was a half hour wait for lunch so ended up at the slightly tonier Canoe Club instead. I had a Cobb salad that was lovely.
Back to get my scooter then home and after a couple of false starts got the BBQ assembled. Had celebratory beers. (I had one).
And a small handful of almonds.
Waiting for dinner time to roll around I made coffee so that we could stay awake for the steak dinner we had planned.
We started with the usual side salad while waiting for the meat.
This was a prime rib cut steak weighing almost a pound (350g) before cooking. I ate about 2/3 of it. It was tender and very tasty and the barbecue seems to work perfectly.
Once again I'm really guessing when putting amount in fitday so this is rather approximate, however it's in the neighborhood of 1,650 calories and 41g of carbohydrates.
