the end of a long week.

As I suspected I did have a medium mug of decaf last night. Then the real thing this morning.
One slice bacon, two fried eggs for breakfast.
My little thermos of coffee at breaktime.
I used the same flatbread that I had for lunch yesterday and packed myself a wrap that I heated in the lunchroom microwave. Inside is cheese, roast beef, a little mayo and lots of lettuce. On the side are a couple of pieces of jicama that were already cut and cherry jell-o for dessert.
Yogourt with sugar-free torani vanilla syrup and the rest of the coffee for afternoon break.
Not having planned anything (once again) I grabbed some ground beef from the freezer and by the time Doug got home I was almost ready to make a Taco Salad again. 125g beef, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and a big dollop of sour cream. Yum.
Total calories for today 1,466 and 34g carbohydrates. Pretty good, eh?

tired and bored are a dangerous combination...

Once again little pork patties and two eggs, coffee.Work meeting at another location. Avoided cookies and bite-sized muffins. Helped myself to a small coffee. Went out to my scooter to take the picture. Here is my top case.
Came home for lunch before heading back to normal work. Found these wraps yesterday and zoomed in on the "very high fibre" label. They have 100 calories and only 16g of carbohydrate, 7 of which are fibre. I used some of the left-over pork, cheese and a big handful of spinach to make a wrap. One minute in the microwave and there's melty goodness for lunch.

Another iced americano on the way back to work.
Dinner was more spinach and more left-over pork (150g) with some of the xanthan-thickened gravy.
Rhubarb for dessert.
Today's totals 1,284 and only 27g carbohydrates (although I don't know how much of the fibre in the wrap is soluble and might count). Still - a great day. It's early though and I might have a cup of decaf before bed.

a long day

As always - in the beginning is the coffee (it was good).Since I was going to work out this morning I had a light breakfast of yogourt and stewed rhubarb (what am I going to do when rhubarb season is over?).
Doug made lunch for me because I was running late. One slice of bacon and a two-egg mushroom omelet with some cheddar cheese melting inside. Yum. And my sweetie made it for me. Double yum.
Though it was rainy this morning by noon the sun had come out and it was warm and a little muggy, I stopped at the ubiquitous coffee shop for an Iced Americano.
Dinner was 45g turkey, 40g roast beef, 55g cheese and celery, jicama and radishes. Again.
More rhubarb for dessert.
For my evening break I had 30g of roasted almonds and just a few sips from a Dr. Pepper.
Once home I needed a little something more and had some calories to spare so treated myself to a few strawberries (100g) with two tablespoons of heavy cream.
Total calories for today 1,396 and 42g of carbohydrates. Yay me!

A quiet evening at home alone

Well, okay Doug was here but it was just the two of us.

This morning started with coffee.I hadn't made a lunch the night before - very unusual and I discovered this evening that while multi-tasking this morning I had forgotten to take a picture of my two sausage patty, two egg breakfast. It looked just like this one from a couple of days ago though...

My usual thermos of coffee for break time.Lunch was the Gold Seal brand smoked tuna slices with ginger, a bit of left-over slightly sad looking avocado (80g) and the usual radish, celery and jicama selection of fresh veggies.

Dinner was last night's roast pork heated up with a little of the "gravy" (juices and the cooked garlic blitzed with the hand blender and a dash of xanthan gum for thickening), broccoli and a side salad with lots of mushrooms as we were out of tomato.
For some reason (maybe all the sweet fruit I've had the last two days) I really wanted a bite of sweetness after dinner. I had one dark chocolate covered piece of candied ginger. Yes, sugar but one piece only and the flavour is so intense it easily satisfies that craving.
Much later a 1/2 cup of the stewed rhubarb made with splenda. Yummy and hardly any calories.
Even counting 100 calories and 10g of carbohydrates for my little chockie today's total is only 1,366 calories and 40g of carbohydrates. Pretty good.

Okay, so we can't have company every night...

Pretty much as soon as Rob and Kama left last night Brian and Kathleen called about the new Doctor Who episode they had just watched. Turns out they'll both be away for the second episode so we invited them over (tonight was the easiest night all week) to watch The Shakespeare Code as well as the Weakest Link special.

This Morning:
I woke up too early and dozed until my alarm went off. Had to go in early today for a meeting so I was really tired and groggy. Made bacon and eggs and coffee for breakfast.Since I had a longer than normal morning I was quite hungry by the time for coffee break. I had the rhubarb that I had brought along as a desserty treat with my coffee.
Lunch was about 40g each of roast beef and turkey breast. God bless the Red Barn who actually roasts wholesome cuts and slices them as an alternative to processed "deli" meat. Also had 60g of cheeses and the usual assortment of crunchy raw veg.
Finished off the thermos of coffee.
Dinner was pork shoulder done in the slow-cooker with lots of garlic. Also 1/2 cup of broccoli and a side salad.
Right, so here's where the trouble started. I think my being tired and just sitting and watching TV with company instead of having a conversation led me to eat more than I needed (or even really wanted) to. I had a little bit more than I had last night of the fruit and cheese - not much mind you but I did have 4 of the rice crackers that I only had one of last night. Furthermore...
I had another glass of wine. Big glass but not lots of wine.
And because I knew both Brian and Kathleen (but especially Brian) loved them so much I dug out of the freezer a little bag of sugar-free chocolate covered almonds that had been in there for months (months I tell you). I had eight.
I tried to be as honest as possible on fitday and came up with the not to happy total of 1,886 calories and something in the neighbourhood of 50g of carbohydrates. Not good.

Company for snackies

Woke up feeling quite horrible this morning. Tired, weak, foul mood. Doug's in trouble.
Two eggs and two little patties of ground pork (Happy Island Pigs again). I made a spice mixture - mostly sage a little sweetener and made little 1 oz "sausage" patties.
Lunch is a hard-boiled egg and the rest of the yogourt and some more rhubarb.

Store-bought roasted chicken for dinner since I fell asleep after lunch and didn't wake until 5pm. Unheard of. I usually can't sleep during the day. Still a little crabby when I woke up but otherwise feeling better. Made coffee since it's what I do when I get up and I needed a little help. Also had the usual side salad with dinner but no veg since we knew there were lots more calories to come...We had Rob and Kama over for fruit and cheese this evening. I've known Rob for over a year now through SVIS (Scooter Group) but had never met his fiancee. I always thought that we had a lot in common and I'm kinda surprised it's taken us this long to get together. Here is a picture of the spread I put out on the coffee table for us to graze on. I had one piece of each kind of fruit and one slice of each kind of cheese.
I also had this much wine, and another glass with about half as much later on.
Since I didn't weigh any of the fruit or cheese I made a wild guess on fitday so I may or may not be at 1,250 calories and 32g net carbohydrates for the day.

and for the rest of Sunday

Dinner was hamburgers, well actually Bisonburgers (180g) with 45g of cheese, mustard and a salad.

Quite a bit later I had some more rhubarb (100g) with some whipped cream than Doug had made up. After playing around on fitday I came up with about 450 calories for my sandwich earlier so when I add everything for the day I'm just short of 1,500 calories total. So, okay really.

I had a sandwich. A sandwich!

With bread and everything!

The day started innocently enough with coffee...
and some more yogourt and rhubarb. And some questionable reading.
Went to the Black Stilt for scooter meet-up and ordered my usual large two-shot americano. (That's a reflection of a pendant light, not something in the coffee).
We chatted for awhile reminiscing about the good old times last weekend and decided to go on a substantial ride up the peninsula to find out where Gowlland Tod Provincial Park was for Deborah (something about a walk tomorrow). I knew that since we were only leaving the cafe at 1:00 I'd be famished before getting home again so I decided to do something I'd been thinking of for several weeks now and have the Chicken Pesto Panini that Carol is so enthused about. Here it is in all it's crunchy, oily, chicken-y, pesto-y glory. It was fabulous. Go there and order one today. (This portion, by the way, is a half panini and cost Can$3.00).
There can be no accurate count of calories or carbs today. I'll just try and be reasonable about dinner and any snacks.
