Strike rally but I'm still home sick...

Slept 11 hours pretty much uninterrupted last night. Hoping to get well if I can continue in this vein. Coffee when I finally got out of bed.Made an omelet from left-overs again. Some steamed broccoli and half a beef sausage (48g) along with 18g shredded cheese and two medium eggs.

Mid-afternoon I was feeling pretty hungry, had one scoop of Whey Gourmet protein drink.
Half an hour later still feeling very empty so 15g of pork rinds and a glass of diet pop.
Dinner was 73g worth of ham steak fried up in a mustard sauce with just a teaspoon of molasses for sweetness. 118g of steamed cauliflower with a little grated swiss cheese (19g) on top and a side salad.
Another fudge pop. Hey- they're such a deal at only 40 calories.
Later in the evening I was feeling quite hungry (to tell the truth I still am) so I had a big mug of de-caf and the last piece of the flax cookies (35g).
Today's totals: 1,411 calories and 39g of carbohydrates. I also did my abdominal exercises for the first time in a few days this evening. Now I just have to get rid of this sinus headache and get back to the gym!

One step at a time

Today I didn't go to the gym or even work. My sinus headache is still around, sometimes my ear or throat hurts too but not all the time. I really, really don't want to take antibiotics for this since I'm convinced that's what caused this recurring condition to flare up in the first place.
If you're thinking "hey, that's the same picture as yesterday's coffee" well you're right. I didn't remember to take a picture this morning. I did however have a mug of coffee identical to this one.For a brunch type meal I used the tiny bit of left-over bbq pork chop-suey from Tuesday night's dinner (about 1/2 cup), chopped as the base for an 2 egg omelet/fritatta thingy. It was surprisingly delicious.

About mid-afternoon I had some veg. that I had previously bagged for work but never eaten.

And a single 15g serving of pork rinds, hot and spicy flavour. This is significant because much like potato chips it's really, really hard to stop at one serving. Today I did.
Doug picked up two kinds of dinner sausage at the butcher's on his way home from work. The turkey sausage with feta and sundried tomato is my favorite but they frequently have trouble with keeping the meat in the casing - that's it on the far right of the picture. Also on my plate is half of one of their huge beef sausages (English bangers) just the half weighed in at 50g! Also lots of broccoli and our usual salad.
Having re-discovered them in the freezer I was ready for another sugar-free, fat-free fudge pop.
A few hours later I had a pot of tea and half of one of the Flaxmachine cookies (one cookie is actually three servings so I always weigh them).
Total calories today 1,453 and 53g of carbohydrates.

Woke up before the alarm and lay in bed awhile. I'm only working half a day today so I can take it easy getting going. Coffee. One scoop of Whey Gourmet protein - chocolate.
Did several sets of abdominal and leg exercises since I'm really not in any shape to go to the gym. Minor progress at least. Sardines in mustard sauce, 100g of strawberries and 1/2 cup yogourt.
For some reason I found even half a day of work pretty stressful - must be the impending strike. Had a snack of raw cauliflower, celery, jicama and radishes.
Doug made us lovely big Chef Salads for dinner. Lettuce, tomato, cucumber 20g each of roast beef, ham and chicken, one medium hard-boiled egg and 32g of shredded cheese. 2 tablespoons of creamy dressing on top.
These have actually been in the freezer since the weekend and I can't believe I haven't wanted one before now. Smaller serving size than the last ones we bought - only 40 calories each.
Being barely over 1,000 calories after dinner I enjoyed having a pot of tea and not quite 2 servings (48g) of Flaxmachine cookie for a snack. I'm convinced that these are good food, sweetened with splenda, dark rye flour and flax seeds but they are very calorie dense so can't have them often.

Total for today 1,271 calories and 57g of carbohydrates (less if you don't count polyalcohols). Feels good to be in control again.

Our 14th wedding anniversary.

My posting has been a little irregular (when you consider you used to be able to set a clock by me) partly because I've been feeling ill on and off for several weeks now and it's wearing me down, and also because I haven't been proud of my food choices and calorie counts. I had made a short term goal/reward of staying below 1,500 calories/day leading up to a big meal out for our anniversary but wasn't able to make it. Disappointing given how well I've done in the past but on the other hand, I have to admit (or be forced to admit) not earth-shattering seeing how well I've done in the past. Monica's right, I have to stop beating myself up. With that out of the way - we return you to Everything I Eat.

Woke up early, partly because I went to bed early last night. Made coffee but still had the headache behind my eyes that's been plaguing me since last Friday evening.Didn't make breakfast and stopped at the patisserie for more coffee and a "Super Flax" muffin. Full of calories to be sure but also tons of fibre.
Couldn't cope at work, more the emotional reaction to persistent illness rather than the illness itself, and came home at lunch time. When the giant flax muffin finally wore out I rummaged and found the unsweetened flaked coconut which for some reason appealed.
Doug- my wonderful husband of 14 years picked up my favorite dish from my favorite Chinese restaurant in honour of our anniversary. Also because Splendid Chinese is closing after 13 years - wah! We had BBQ pork chop suey and I had spicy ginger beef - which is not a diet or healthy food by any stretch of the imagination. To make it worse I had seconds. It's not like I was going to throw out any leftovers!

Didn't keep fitday but have already started inputting my food for Wednesday.

Monday September 17th and still sick...

So yesterday I blogged that I had missed taking a picture of breakfast on Saturday - I found the picture on my camera but realize that with this headache and brain fog I'm having trouble with the actual work of resizing and posting all my pictures. I really hope I feel better soon.

Monday I went to a doctor's appointment but otherwise sat at home bored, worried and sill not feeling well. I didn't keep track in fitday and ate twice as many pork rinds as in the photo - but since I didn't bother with meals...

Craving carbs and comfort food - put PB and artificially sweetened jam on a wrap. It's just not the same...

Saturday September 15th and Sunday the 16th

Friday night I started feeling like I was coming down with something. Had a headache and a sore throat and had that woozy feeling you get with a cold, on and off all evening. I knew I had to go to work Saturday - I got to be the boss - so I made a wrap with some turkey, havarti, red onion and lettuce.
I guess I forgot to take a picture of my breakfast since I was feeling pretty bad Saturday morning. I'm thinking I had one slice of bacon and two fried eggs, it's a safe bet that I also had coffee. I got another coffee for my morning break.
Here that wrap at lunchtime with some veggies and sugar-free jell-o.
For my afternoon break I brought a little chunk of cream cheese with a few bits of lox on top. A small but very tasty snack.
By the time I got home I was really feeling under the weather. I changed into my flannel nightgown and lay on the couch. Eventually Doug got hungry enough to make dinner. I wasn't particularly interested but was hungry once he put it in front of me. He did make the hamburger patties a little too big though. I didn't finish my second one.
Still feeling pretty miserable later that evening I had a mug of tea and four of the little Joseph's brand no-sugar-added cookies.
Went to bed around 10pm and felt a little better in the morning. Had coffee at home then, since it was raining, Rob picked me up and took me to scooter meet at the Black Stilt. I probably would have been too tired to go if he hadn't offered me a drive. Once there I had a large americano and a half of a chicken pesto pannini.

Started to feel sick again in the afternoon. Had a little snack of salami bits to hold me until dinner.
Roast chicken, green beans and a side salad.
A quarter of a granny smith apple and about 20g of swiss cheese.
Again with the tea and cookies. I sure hope I feel better by tomorrow. I'll try to keep better track (ie in fitday) of how many calories I'm consuming. I certainly wasn't paying attention the last couple of days... sigh.
