Our 14th wedding anniversary.

My posting has been a little irregular (when you consider you used to be able to set a clock by me) partly because I've been feeling ill on and off for several weeks now and it's wearing me down, and also because I haven't been proud of my food choices and calorie counts. I had made a short term goal/reward of staying below 1,500 calories/day leading up to a big meal out for our anniversary but wasn't able to make it. Disappointing given how well I've done in the past but on the other hand, I have to admit (or be forced to admit) not earth-shattering seeing how well I've done in the past. Monica's right, I have to stop beating myself up. With that out of the way - we return you to Everything I Eat.

Woke up early, partly because I went to bed early last night. Made coffee but still had the headache behind my eyes that's been plaguing me since last Friday evening.Didn't make breakfast and stopped at the patisserie for more coffee and a "Super Flax" muffin. Full of calories to be sure but also tons of fibre.
Couldn't cope at work, more the emotional reaction to persistent illness rather than the illness itself, and came home at lunch time. When the giant flax muffin finally wore out I rummaged and found the unsweetened flaked coconut which for some reason appealed.
Doug- my wonderful husband of 14 years picked up my favorite dish from my favorite Chinese restaurant in honour of our anniversary. Also because Splendid Chinese is closing after 13 years - wah! We had BBQ pork chop suey and I had spicy ginger beef - which is not a diet or healthy food by any stretch of the imagination. To make it worse I had seconds. It's not like I was going to throw out any leftovers!

Didn't keep fitday but have already started inputting my food for Wednesday.

Good news, more good news and bad news

The good news is there are no more cookies. Doug took them to work - so I'm safe from their evil influence. The other good news is Doug has been offered a permanent position (as opposed to being on call). The bad news is we had celebratory dinner.

This morning started with coffee. I went to my work-out, did very well thank you and had a double of the Whey Protein shake in chocolate.
Visited Mom but still not very hungry after the shake, just had some salad and tea.
A couple of hours before dinner I was suddenly quite hungry. I had three slices of the dry ham (Alpen Shinken it's called) and a drink of diet soda to keep me going.
Thought about what Doug would appreciate most and came up with Splendid Chinese. That's the name of our favorite Chinese restaurant - Splendid. I got all of his favorites: egg roll, lemon chicken, Splendid special fried rice and sweet and sour pork. A dieters disaster! However, I took reasonable servings of everything and not too much sauce and according to fitday this plate is about 750 calories worth. Good thing I had so little earlier today - and doesn't it make you wonder how many calories are consumed at the buffet tables?
Several hours later the blue cheese was calling to me again - especially since I picked up a pint of strawberries today. 34g of cheese and 71g of strawberries.
According to fitday 1,474 calories and 88g of carbohydrates. I think that the calories in the fitday database were a bit off for the sweet and sour pork and I'm probably closer to 1,600 calories. Now all I have to do is get past my birthday next week and I can get back to an actual Low-Carb lifestyle.

too busy shopping to eat

Slept in a bit because I woke up during the night. Wanted to go to physio/exercise early so I just had a glass of whey protein drink and my coffee before leaving. I had purchased the vanilla flavoured protein powder because I had some low-carb recipes that called for it as an ingredient but hadn't used it yet. As it turns out this brand and this flavour is really very yummy as a drink.
After exercising I came home and found that Doug was almost ready to leave to go downtown on an errand. I basically hijacked him and while he did get his 15 minute errand done, he ended up clothing shopping with me for about two hours. The good news is that I found a pair of pants size 16 that fit perfectly. Size 16! And I got a new bra that fits much better. While trying on the bras I suddenly felt a little light headed and realized that it was 2:30 and I had only had about 200 calories for breakfast. We headed up to the food court and found a Chinese fast food place with "Bourbon Chicken" which was basically barbecue and some chicken and mixed veg in black bean sauce. I input my best guess into fitday and came up with about 400 calories and 8-10g of carbs.
Dinner was late since lunch had been. Because we were out most of the afternoon we found ourselves at loose ends again for meal planning. We used the Clover Leaf Tuna Steaks and some lovely portabello mushrooms I found on sale yesterday. Sauted the mushrooms, heated the mild curry flavour tuna and poured it on top of a couple of cups of romaine.
Adding thing into fitday I find I'm at less than 800 calories for the day so I decide that I may as well enjoy the last 100g of the rhubarb crisp that I had planned to leave for Doug. With a couple of tablespoons of cream my total calorie count for today is still only 1,076 calories and less than 30g net carbohydrates.
I'll probably allow myself to enjoy a mug of decaf later this evening. Especially since when I got weighed this morning I was somehow down 2 pounds from a couple of days ago - in spite of yesterday's beer etc. Go fig.
