in pyjamas all day

I had such great hopes for today. Shopping, laundry, meal planning, cooking... Instead I played on the computer and flopped around on the couch like a large marine mammal. Had tea with my peanut butter and jam sandwich for breakfast because I was hoping to get some more sleep.
Didn't work so I gave up and had coffee before the headache got too bad.
Many hours later I gave in to the need for nourishment and used boughten chicken broth a large mushroom and a few tidbits of chicken - maybe 2 oz. to make a quick bowl of soup.
My dinner was the same as last night because I couldn't be bothered to do anything else. The salad was considerably smaller this time and I finished it all.
Butterscotch nsa pudding is almost impossible to make without lumps, especially when I'm feeling lazy. I had another bowl tonight since I had calories to spare.
While watching Doctor Who I enjoyed a mug of cocoa. In spite of having these two "treats" I'm barely over 1,000 calories for the day. Since I was only slightly more active than your average giant sloth I'm not worried about too little.

still barely able to speak

Woke up coughing during the night. Took some cough syrup (sorry no photo, it was 4:30am) and sat on the couch for awhile before heading back to bed. Up around 10:30 and coffee.
Didn't feel very hungry but had to go work out at the physiotherapy place so I had to have some nourishment. Made a green onion omelet (2 large eggs) with three of the short strips of bacon.

Around 4pm realized I would be famished by the time Doug got home for supper at 6:30 so I had 50g of mixed nuts that I had packaged for yesterdays snack (but substituted a hard-boiled egg) and a cup of the fresh Cadborosaurus Blend coffee that I just got at Pepper's. Also water.

I was wrong. When Doug got home roast chicken was ready but I wasn't. About an hour and a half after he had finished I decided I needed veg so made a giant salad with lettuce, 3 large mushrooms, a couple of inches of cucumber and a chunk (60g?) of jicama. One of the breasts off the chicken (no skin) and a couple of tablespoons of mayo doctored with some curry powder.
It was huge. It was almost too much trouble to eat. I actually put it aside a couple of times before giving up and handing the last 20% or so over to Doug to polish off.
Doug has nicer hands but still bites his nails.
Still unable to talk in anything other than a husky whisper and feeling very sorry for myself I decided since I'd barely had 1,200 calories and less than 30g net carbs I would treat us both to another box of butterscotch pudding. It was good but after the 1/2 cup serving I didn't immediately want more. Since I doubt that I have suddenly gained control over my cravings I suggest that this is an indication that I really do feel rotten. Also green tea.

feeling better, but...

My voice was almost completely gone all day long. I managed at work but had to whisper, squeak and rasp my way through the entire day.
For breakfast I had coffee and a peanut butter and jam sandwich made from the same ingredients as last night. Although it has more carbs than my usual breakfasts it had a lot less calories.
I took a hard-boiled egg for break in case I was really hungry with my lower-protein breakfast. I wasn't, but since I didn't get a coffee break until 12:15 I was ready for it.
Monica made a big pot of strong tea this morning. I drank lots hoping it would help my throat. It didn't.
Before I headed to the lunchroom I went for a walk and picked up some of my preferred throat drops. They didn't make any difference either. Then I picked up a coffee and sat outside with Barbara for a few minutes before I realized I should be photographing the coffee and headed back to work. I actually wrote my coffee order on a piece of paper in case the shop was noisy, luckily I didn't have to use it.
Lunch was salami, cheddar, celery, jicama and surprise! 3 cherry tomatoes since we were out of radishes. Radical. Also some kimchi but I couldn't finish it.

Part of my lunch plan had included a chunk of brie but I saved it for my afternoon break.
Doug had dinner prepared. Pork chop with a couple of tablespoons of unsweetened applesauce, green beans and the usual side salad. My new buddy came in the mail today. My bestest long-distance friend Jen sent me a long letter and my newest stuffed hamster toy. I think he's eying the beans.

Still convinced that enough hot liquid would fix my voice I made a cup of de-caf and had a spoonful (about 25ml) of peanut butter for a snack. I enjoyed it while we watched a peculiar little Canadian movie called "Sidekick" about a comic book geek who finds out a guy he knows has superpowers. We both enjoyed it quite a bit.

While I'm still under 1,500 calories for the day I'm 50% over the amount of carbs I would normally aim for. Things should get back to normal now that I'm feeling better and plan to do a big shopping run for good food tomorrow.

sick of being sick

Morning already? Coffee. Bacon and eggs. Phlegm.

Physio then to work. More coffee.

Have been too tired to do much cooking, or shopping or food prep. tried this Tuna with ginger in a can with the usual radishes, jicama and celery sticks. It was actually really good. I think I'll buy it again.
Also brought some kimchi along. Really strong stuff.

Afternoon break some cottage cheese. I think these little containers hold about 1/2 cup. (125ml)

Doug had dinner almost ready when I got home. We had the other half of the country-style pork ribs that had been frozen since last time. About 1/2 cup green beans and a side salad. These froze very well and I think I should definitely make the recipe again.

After dinner my throat started hurting again so I made up a pot of tea. Also after my craving last night and thinking about it for awhile I decided I did need a bit of a treat so I bought some unsweetened peanut butter and a loaf of low-carb bread. I already had a jar of nsa jam in the fridge. I input all the ingredients into fitday and find that 1/2 a sandwich has only 175 calories and 8g net carbohydrates. It was very yummy. In fact I think I'll have an entire sandwich for breakfast tomorrow.

five or three weeks depending

Five weeks ago I started using fitday consistently for the first time in many, many months. Three weeks ago I started taking pictures of everything I was about to eat and post them in this blog.

Five days ago I came down with a respiratory infection that's worn me down to the point where I really want to eat something comforting and easy to make. Peanut butter and jam sandwiches comes to mind. All my life when I want to feel better I eat something and while I managed the first few days it's getting very hard.

Since there was only one egg in the house I made a flax bun for my breakfast. And coffee.

I went to work today and managed even though I felt tired and not too clever. Drank a lot of herbal tea (ick) and got minor relief from three of the Ricola lozenges.
Upon arrival at work I immediately made a big pot of herbal tea. I had four of my little cups full during the day.

Because I was too tired to make a proper lunch I had 50g salami, 70g of cheeses, celery, radishes and jicama. Ate a third of my Atkins bar for dessert.

Even though I wasn't very hungry by 3:30 I was very tired and feeling sorry for myself. Heated up another cup of tea and nibbled away the rest of the Atkins bar.

Had to wait until almost 7pm for Doug to get home. Eventually he got dinner together (thanks hon!). We had grilled salmon fillets, broccoli and a salad.

Couldn't get warm resting after work so had some tea with dinner.

my voice is almost completely gone

Woke up around 7:30 with a sore throat. It not only hurt but it felt tight as well. When I tried to speak all I got was a little squeak. I called work to say I wouldn't be coming in and there was no question listening to my cracked and squeaky voice. Started the day with a cup of throat tea (slippery elm).

I was surprisingly hungry this morning and even though I felt lousy I made myself sausage and eggs.

I went to physio since it's been five days. I managed the exercises fairly well. A couple of times when working pretty hard I felt a little shakey but managed about 90% of my workout.

When I came home I wanted a snack had a mini-pepperoni bite, a can of kipper snacks (a little bigger than a can of sardines) and eventually when I was still hungry and nothing presented itself, almost 50g of almonds.

Too tired to make dinner. Doug brought home a ready-cooked supermarket chicken (yuck) and we threw together a salad. After dinner I wanted something sweet so had the last of the yogourt (probably only 75ml) and later made myself a cup of sugar-free cocoa. I hadn't entered anything in fitday until I'd already had all this so was pleasantly surprised when the day's calories totaled up at 1,475 and 26g net carbs.

now if I could only make myself heard

While my throat isn't as sore, I'm having trouble speaking up and am worried that this may turn into laryngitis.

Scrambled eggs for breakfast. Doug made the bacon, sliced the tomatoes and broke the eggs for me. I scrambled. Three of the small slices of bacon two eggs, two cherry tomatoes and coffee.

Today was the last Sunday of the season at work. Usually on Sundays we have chips or candies or both. Today available to tempt me were (clockwise from the front) cheap choco-covered graham crackers, rockets, marshmallow strawberries, Piller's bite size pepperoni, fun-size nestle chocolate bars, all-dressed flavour chips, hershey's dark chocolate mix, turtles, fruit drink and diet coke.

Today at work for my break I had my coffee and an entire Atkin's almond brownie protein bar. It was very sweet and very filling and worked well to keep me out of all the snackage.

We needed something easy for dinner tonight since I'm right out of energy. I cooked up some organic lean ground beef with taco seasoning and Doug helped me throw together one of our favorites the Taco Salad. 2 handfuls of romaine, about 170g of ground beef (yikes!) 1/2 a medium tomato, 40g shredded cheese and two tablespoons of sour cream.

Even after the huge salad I wanted something like dessert. I found the last 5 brazil nuts and had them with some diet soda.
