It's turned into muffin-mania

Right - I still had a stale superflax muffin left over from yesterday so, since I slept in, it became my breakfast and lunch. With coffee.

I made a quick wrap for dinner break at work with 50g of roast beef, 40g of cheddar, tomato, cucumber, lettuce and a swipe of may.

For my evening break I had 1/2 cup cottage cheese, two celery sticks and four radishes. Also a diet Dr. Pepper.

Wouldn't know where to start with the calories for the muffin - but I really didn't eat much today so I'm not worried. I suppose I'll get back to proper low-carb after Thanksgiving and all the other events coming up this weekend.

Thursday - hanging in there... barely.

Made coffee and forgot to take a picture. Guess I'm more tired than I thought. Went to the patisserie to pick up a muffin (day-old superflax 2 for 1) and got another coffee to go with. Ate part of the muffin while doing set-up at work.

Ate a little more of the muffin (but did throw out a bit) with my coffee at break-time.
For lunch I had brought 57g of salami, 31g of cheddar and the usual veggies.

Bought some groceries (even though I haven't been cooking much) on my lunch-hour. Picked up a pop and 2 cans of Planters deluxe mix on sale - one for Saturday night and one for my co-workers who've put up with a grumpy me for so long. I had this little pile of nuts on my break but forgot to stop and put some gum in my mouth and snuck one or two nuts out of the can most of the afternoon. This is exactly why I'm supposed to be taking pictures! Rats! Probably ate at least this much again... maybe more.

Of course when I got home I wasn't hungry for dinner. Around 8:00 I finally did up one of the fish fillets that were supposed to be on the menu. Since I was too lazy to do up veg and a salad I wanted more and so the last jell-o pudding became dessert.

Not long after I reverted to my old habits while sitting and watching CSI - instead of stretching I lay on the couch moaning over my sore feet and knee and asked Doug to share some of his power-pop that he was eating. That's a few kernels in the used jell-o cup. Then - I asked him to get me a 30g serving of yet more mixed nuts (the same bag from earlier in the week - not the can I just bought for company). At least he weighed it and after that I stuck a piece of gum in my mouth and was able to last another hour until I crawled into bed.

All in all not a good day - and I didn't even try and keep up with fitday.

Wednesday - and I'm already sore and tired

Woke up very tired this morning, legs kind of achy too - coffee.Made up 2 scoops of Vanilla whey protein powder but added a teaspoon of cocoa powder and the dregs from the coffee pot to make it "mocha". Didn't have enough time at home (and wasn't awake enough to be hungry) so took it to work and had it at coffee break.

Chicken salad, jicama, radishes, celery.
Bought a diet Dr. Pepper and had it with my bite of flavoured cheese in the afternoon.
Tired and sore when I got home. Had packed my gym clothes with a thought to going after work but my knee was bothering me enough that I had a hard time going down stairs and getting on scoot - so thought better of it. Really craving comfort food so after a couple hours of sitting resting made something like pancakes. Used 2 large eggs, 1/4 cup vital wheat gluten flour and 1/4 cup flax meal as well a baking powder and a bit of salt. We have some maltitol-based maple-flavoured syrup so I had some of that and a dab of butter with them.
After having the pancakes I really, really wanted something salty so had a chunk of sharp cheddar (34g).

After I entered everything in fitday I was surprised to see only 1,493 calories and 40g of carbohydrates. I guess I've been doing this so long that even when I'm tired and in "don't care" mode I can still make reasonable choices. It doesn't hurt that we don't keep many dangerous foods in the house.

Back at work and already tired...

Coffee, bacon (1) and eggs (2) for breakfast.

Coffee break.

Tuna salad, jicama, celery, radish and yogourt.

The dregs of the tepid coffee and a 25g chunk of flavoured feta cheese.

Doug made pork chops (100g) for dinner. I had mine with brussel sprouts and a side salad. Another jell-o nsa chocolate pudding for dessert.

Just a couple of hours later I felt really peckish - made a big mug of de-caf. Still wanted more sweet so had three nsa werther's hard caramel candies.

Even that wasn't enough and in the end I share a bag of caramel power pop with Doug.

Total calories about 1,680 and 59g of carbohydrates.

Another good day

Coffee with a little added into the Vanilla protein drink for flavour and less sweetness.

After going to the gym I made another cup of coffee and an omelet with mushrooms and some deli turkey that needed eating up.

While not on the low-carb list, a pomegranate is full of little seeds and takes a lot of time and work to eat. Also I really like them.

Roast chicken with brussel sprouts and a side salad for dinner.

And another of those little jell-o nsa puddings.

Later on a 40g serving of mixed nuts and a little diet pop.

1,391 calories and 64g of carbohydrates.

Sunday - coffee and... pizza?

Coffee and bacon and eggs this morning for breakfast.

Off to scooter meet and coffee at the Black Stilt.

Mid-afternoon, too late for lunch but not early enough for dinner. Had 40g mixed nuts and a big glass of Fresca.

And because I was feeling cold and a little lethargic - a mug of coffee.

I had been talking about doing this for a couple of weeks. We have those great high fibre Flat Out brand oval wraps. They have only 100 calories and 9g net carbs. I spread some of the Classico Bruschetta very thinly on top, several sliced mushrooms, added some seasoned lean ground beef (120g) and about 40g shredded cheese. And to be good we still had our side salad. While it had more carbs than our usual cheeseburger sans bun meal it actually had less calories because I end up eating much less ground beef. Besides it was really tasty.

Not right away but a little later I really wanted something sweet so went with one of the Jell-o nsa chocolate puddings. These are about as far from whole foods as I would ever wander, but they are very chocolaty and when eaten with a baby spoon do the trick. (I was worried that one might lead to another or at least wanting another but after taking my time eating it - felt full and satisfied the craving.)

Happy to report total calories for the day: 1,346 and in spite of wrap and tomato sauce only 46g (net) of carbohydrates.

another meal out!

Started out with a mug of coffee and two scoops of Whey Gourmet protein drink before heading off to the gym for what I hope will now become my regular workout.

Even though the weather is not very good for scootering my scooter buddy Rob and I wanted to have a day out so (by car) we explored Government House - well the outside at least and when it started to rain I decided I was hungry and wanted, well, something. Rob was more decisive and chose Red Robin for a burger. I started with a diet pepsi and then ordered the Whiskey River BBQ Chicken Wrap and asked for a side salad instead of fries. The wrap was really tasty but there must be quite a lot of sugar in their BBQ sauce. I had the half at the front of the picture and took the other half home for Doug to have when he got home from work. I also ate both slices of cantaloupe melon.

We wandered around the nearby Futureshop and I bought a new toy for the PS2. We also visited a nearby motorcycle/scooter dealership and spent at least an hour sitting on bikes, trying on helmets and jackets and generally playing "I want". I chose the yellow Vespa GTS, the Honda VT750T tourer/cruiser or the Yamaha 650 VStar Classic, and the Piaggio X9 Evolution 500 which was pretty sweet! We also liked the 20' cabin cruiser they had in the corner of the showroom although how to tow it behind a bike it a bit of a puzzler.
When we got back I offered Rob a light beer and I had about 3/4 of one as well. Which helped with the new SingStar game.

I hadn't planned dinner so we had relatively small chicken caesar salads with the last breast and bits that was on the chicken carcass in the fridge.

It being a very small salad I also had a chunk of feta cheese and a little later 30g of mixed nuts.

After finished the laundry, watching an episode of Rome on TV and playing with our new SingStar game for awhile, I started feeling quite hungry. I started with a sugar-free werther's but that didn't help much. We still have a few bags of Power Pop popcorn snack in the pantry so we split a package of the caramel flavour.

Well I've tried my best guess on fitday estimating the calories for the wrap and came up with 1,421 calories and 50g of carbohydrates. Pretty darn good if that's right. ps I've written an e-mail to Red Robin asking for nutritional info. We'll see if it does any good...
