still not great

Still feeling sickly but not nearly as bad as yesterday. Slept in, had coffee.
Thought about making scrambled eggs but just grabbed a heel of salami and some left-over jicama sticks for breakfast.

Decided more was necessary, bowl of yogourt. Continued the Ginger-ale therapy from yesterday. It's just what I want when I feel under the weather. Or when faced with neat rye whiskey.

Late afternoon, I grilled the other chicken breast that I took out of the freezer yesterday and put it on top of the rest of our lettuce with a generous helping of bottled Caesar dressing and some grated parm. Was actually really good. Felt good enough to go to the store and pick up some lozenges and among other things diet butterscotch pudding. Not my favorite flavour but it has fewer carbs than chocolate or vanilla. Made it up with 1 part coffee cream to 1 part water to keep the carbs down. It was really nice and I had to resist eating the entire thing all at once.

Shopper's didn't have my favorite throat drops so I got these ones as they were the only sugar-free variety I could find.

Around dinner time I was thinking more soup - used up a few dried shitaki mushrooms I found in the back of the pantry and a package of shiritaki noodles (konnayku only as noodles) they have practically no nutrient value at all, virtually all fibre.

More pudding. Don't worry I gave the rest to Doug so I wouldn't have any more.

Another lozenge, and around 9pm upon finding my fitday calculation at less than 1,100 calories had a tin of sardines just because I could. And more gingerale.

Sick, sick, sickey sick sick

I woke up around 5am with the feeling that I had been gargling broken glass. I got up and took two aspirin and made myself a cup of herbal tea. My stomach was so growly I ate a hard-boiled egg. After a couple of hours I left instruction for Doug to buy s-f gingerale before he left for work, then went back to bed.

The stove clock (illuminated by the flash I can now tell it needs cleaning badly) says 1:45. I was finally up again and having my "morning" coffee. A little while later I started in on the gingerale and had a bowl of cottage cheese. Then half an Atkins bar. Throat not so bad but have that woozy in the head and all-over malaise of my body desperately fighting some bug.

Around 4pm Doug called and asked if I wanted him to come straight home. Rats. I had completely forgotten the after-work gathering at Bart's. While I did want him to come home and say poor baby and possibly bring groceries, I knew I could manage on my own and he hardly ever gets to socialize so...
I found a big container of chicken stock in the freezer and a chicken breast. While they were thawing I ate some sardines since I was suddenly craving something that wasn't sweet. Poached the chicken breast in the stock and added about 12 pieces of Dreamfield's pasta. The only suitable veg in the house was a few snow peas so in they go. Voila, homemade chicken soup.

Had a bowl of yogourt for dessert. And more gingerale.

Doug's finally home and asking if he can get me anything. Lots more gingerale, the other 1/2 of the Atkins bar and the last of the strong cheddar. In spite of grazing most of the day fitday only counts 1,229 calories. Go fig. Off to bed. Hope I'm feeling better tomorrow.

Coffee.

Bacon and eggs, and surprise! More coffee.

Forgot to take my camera to work today so ended up skipping eating on my early break. Scooted home on my dinner break and was back in just about 15 minutes. Lunch was tuna with some mayo, a sprinkling of walnuts on top instead of mixed in and my usual avocado half on top. On the side was a little dish of kim-chi and some jicama and celery sticks. Also raspberry jell-o. Today for the first time someone said something about my photography. Andy wanted to know if I wanted a picture of his apple.
For my late break I had the snacks I had brought for both breaks today. 30g of brazil nuts and about the same of the lovely sharp cheddar.

I always end up wanting a big snack or a small meal when I get home late from work. There were almost too many choices tonight. I started with a few slices of salami, had a ladle-full of the chicken soup Doug had on the stove for himself and finally half a cup of yogourt sweetened with sugar-free Torani caramel flavoured syrup.

Hit the snooze button one too many times this morning and had to rush to get going on time. Cereal was easiest. And coffee.

Was still full from breakfast when break came around so I just had a little coffee.

Lunch was homemade chicken soup. Threw a couple of mushrooms in with my stock with chicken bits to make it a bit more substantial. That's a piece of Balderson's Heritage Cheddar (3 years!) in the foreground. Also raspberry jell-o and in the back celery, radishes and jicama.

Probably because lunch was pretty light I was quite peckish by the time my afternoon break rolled around - and I had to go to physio after work - so I didn't feel too badly eating about 30g each of almonds and salami slices. Also the little bit of coffee I had left.

Just as I was leaving work, tasting salami, I decided a couple (or 4) of mints were in order before getting to my physiotherapy appointment.

Dinner was left-overs again. Pot roast (only about 4 oz left) another 1/2 cup of broccoli and the side salad.

Discovered that I was pretty low in calories and carbs for the day so had the last of the tiny sliver of Manchego cheese and a couple of bites of honeydew. That barely made a difference and only made me hungrier so I made a pot of tea and pulled out the other half of the coconut Atkins bar from the other day. That gives me a total of 1,524 calories and slightly under 30g net of carbohydrates.

Nothing new today.

Bacon and eggs this morning. And coffee.

Haven't had them regularly but saw one in the snack cupboard when getting out nuts to pack for my afternoon snack and thought 1/2 an Atkins bar might be nice with my coffee. It was. (Coconut flavour).

Lunch was tuna salad (1 can tuna, 10g chopped walnuts, a little chopped jicama and slightly over one tablespoon of mayo), 50g jicama sticks, 5 celery sticks, 3 large radishes and sugar-free jell-o.

I seem to be fighting off another bug. Yay immune system. I had 2 of the vitamin, echinacea throat lozenges just in case.

The rest of the coffee and 25g of brazil nuts made up my afternoon snack.

For dinner I heated up some of the left over pot roast from Sunday with some of the tomato gravy sauce stuff. 5 stalks of asparagus (steamed) and the usual side salad.

Fitday calculations have me at 1,735 calories and under 30g net carbs for the day.

Still feeling a little under the weather this evening, so early to bed - no time for snacking!

Slow-cooker ribs

Really groggy this morning. Had physio before work today. Don't know how good an idea this is.
Flax cereal and coffee. One large hard-boiled egg for protein since I'll be working out and it's longer than usual to lunch.

Since I was late getting to work I sipped coffee and nibbled on some of the nuts while I continued to work.

Lunch was chicken salad (140g chicken breast, 20ml mayo and a few capers), two mushrooms, three radishes and five celery sticks. Also sugar-free jell-o for dessert.

A couple of hours later I had the rest of my coffee with 30g of cheddar cheese and the last couple of almonds from this morning. I had brought about 30g of almonds total.

For dinner we had Country-Style Pork Ribs from a recipe I pulled from the Low-Carb Slow Cooker Recipes book. The recipe claims that it makes 6 servings with a total of 9 carbs each. I split the 1.2kg of ribs and the sauce into just four portions otherwise we'd only have two, 10cm ribs each. Since most of the carbs are in the sauce I gave Doug the lion's share. I also had some broccoli and the usual side salad. Keep in mind when looking at the picture, the plates are about 22cm in diameter, a little smaller than most dinner plates.

2nd to last Sunday at the library

Good morning. Coffee time.

Finally found some natural bacon that I liked. Bonus that the strips are relatively thick but smallish (all the better to fit in the little pan). Two strips of bacon (50g), two large eggs fried in fat from said bacon and two cherry tomatoes.

Today at work there was "Munchie Mix", caramel popcorn and chocolate Clodhoppers for snacks. I had 30g of almonds, 30g of swiss cheese and my little thermos of coffee. I know, I'm amazing!

Dinner from the slow-cooker. I'm calling it :Mediterranean flavours pot roast" Onions, garlic, one over-ripe tomato a little balsamic vinegar cook on high for 5 hours. Puree juices and tomato and onion bits for a tomato-ey gravy. Five stalks of asparagus and the usual salad.

I did feel a bit peckish this evening but got busy and now it's bedtime and I've only had 1,396 calories and 22g carbs today.
