Scooter weekend

Saturday will probably be the hardest day to stick to eating reasonably since we're going to the market today. That means tons of yummy home made goodies from baking to cheeses.

Later on we will be BBQ-ing at the cabin, last year looked like this:

If I can have just salad and steak I should be fine. It's the booze I'm worried about...

Scooter Rally, Wheeeee!

Hey gang,

I'm not posting any pictures of what I'm eating this weekend - yet. This picture is from last year - scooters on the way to Saltspring Island.
I'm zooming around island, staying in a little cabin and playing with my scooters buds.

While I'm not going to eat crap just because I'm on vacation - I'm not going to worry too much about calories. I'm taking some hard-boiled eggs and a couple of Atkins bars just in case but I'm going to try and eat what everyone else is eating in moderation and only after taking a picture of it.

Too excited to eat?

Woke up really early but was able to roll over and get back to sleep. Especially important since I probably won't be able to sleep tonight and will be staying up late on the weekend.
Made coffee about 10am.
Ran around making lists and doing laundry and making more lists. Packing list, chore list, shopping list, list list...
Brunch was two egg omelet with mushrooms, no cheese and a sausage that I found at Pepper's earlier this week called "Sui Choy Ginger Chicken Sausage". It was really good, only 90 calories and less than 1 carb per sausage.
After running around doing errands for a couple of hours I eventually had a late lunch/snack thingy. 45g roast beef, 35g cheddar and a bunch of celery and radishes.
I also had the 1/2 cup of cottage I had taken to work yesterday but didn't have time to eat.
While crossing things off my lists I had another cup of coffee. I was so preoccupied that I had drunk half of it by the time I remembered to take a picture!
I wasn't really interested in food so Doug made dinner - chef salad. One hard boiled egg, 15g of the same roast beef, 50g ham, mixed greens, a small tomato, cucumber, and another 35g of cheddar - shredded this time. Also two tablespoons of bottled caesar dressing on top.
And that's it. I'm packed, showered and pretty much ready to throw the last few things on my scooter in the morning and go. I'm going to try very hard to remember to take pictures of everything while I'm away but because I'll be with a gang (a bike gang at that) and we'll all be yapping away I may not be entirely successful. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see.

Today's calories 1,290 and only 25g of carbs. If only I could keep up this level of excitement and busy-ness I'd be thin in no time - if I didn't die of exhaustion first!

Busy, hard day

Everything started out fine today with my morning coffee.Bacon and eggs.
Coffee for my morning break.
Lunch is 120g of chicken breast with one tablespoon of mayo and a teaspoon of capers. Also celery, jicama and radishes.
Since I spent more than half of my lunch hour shopping for this coming weekend, I didn't leave myself time to eat so my afternoon break was the rest of the chicken salad and veg. that I hadn't finished earlier. In the afternoon we were short staffed and the self-checkout machine wasn't working. I spent most of two and a half hours on desk with a constant line-up. I was exhausted when I left.

After work I went to physio/exercise. When I finally got home I was really hungry but sat on the couch and iced my knee and foot before asking Doug to heat up the last of the meatloaf for us. So - the last portion of bison/pork loaf, some frozen green beans (meh) and a salad on the side.
Later on I was really wanting more but wasn't sure if I should eat anything else. I made a cup of hot chocolate (it's gotten suddenly cold here). I mixed one tablespoon of dutch cocoa with two packets of splenda and three tablespoons of heavy cream then added boiling water. Very satisfying.
However, since I decided to have the cocoa my total calories today are exactly 1,600 with 29g of carbohydrates.

Appetite

Yes, more coffee.
Got some new bacon, local 'happy' piggies make very tasty bacon.
Since I figure on 40g for a serving of bacon I had to enjoy only 1 1/2 slices instead of the two smaller slices I had been eating. Two eggs, still large.
For a snack today I packed 25g of almonds which is 145 calories. I threw out one that was bad and saved four for later.
I took the smallest piece of the left-over meatloaf (80g) some jicama, mushrooms and celery, also jell-o. While I was eating I read the new issue of Time magazine which has the cover story "The Science of Appetite". It was a little depressing since the main gist I got was that evolution has made us want to eat, especially high calories foods, as a survival tool. The only thing is, since we're surrounded by food 24/7 a lot of people are going to over-eat and while our heads say enough, several other mechanisms do their best to over-rule our decision to push away from the table.
A few little mints.
The rest of the coffee and almonds from this morning.
150g of roast chicken, 90g of mashed cauliflower and a side salad.
Total for today 1,551 calories and 30g net carbs.

Goal achieved!

Oh, hello again, look it's... coffee.
Two egg omelet. This time with mushrooms, green onions and sharp cheddar.
Went to physio/exercise and didn't get around to lunch until mid-afternoon. I had just enough to keep me going until dinner. 60g turkey breast from the deli, 47g (the lovely hard end) of the emmental and 60g of radishes.
For dinner we had meatloaf made with ground pork from Happy Island Pigs, a wee farm just a couple of hours up-Island from here and ground bison (we do have bison on the Island but I think this was from the mainland). The bison is very lean but luckily the happy pig was not. On the side is some mashed cauliflower impersonating potatoes and the usual salad.
Since I had lots of calories to spare today I enjoyed a lovely dessert of partially frozen rhubarb (I couldn't wait) and whipped cream. When stirred together it was like a fruit ice cream.
Total for today - drum roll please - 1,428 calories and just 29g of carbohydrates! Goal achieved. Now I just have to decide if there will be a particular reward or if heading off for a three day holiday next weekend is sufficient - even though I would have done that anyway.

Something like baking

Since it was a day ending in "Y" I had a big mug of coffee. One last go at the asparagus, emmental omelet. At least until I have both real swiss cheese and fresh asparagus in the house again at the same time.
Scooter meet today. Great big coffee at the Black Stilt. We were all giddy with the thought that in just 5 days we'll be leaving for the third annual Saltspring Island Scooter Rally. Woot!
Shared some veggies, sliced meat and cheese with Doug. We pretty much split what you see here although I made sure he got extra cheese. My half was about 30g each of deli turkey and Pepper's real roast beef as well as 45g of cheese and lots of low-carb veggies.
While at Pepper's I found some lovely fresh cod on sale as well a few large scallops. I made a cream sauce with a little garlic and threw in handful of the prawns we had in the freezer. About 30g of green beans to give it a little colour and we had a very tasty dinner. Also salad.
Sometimes I think I miss baking almost as much as I miss eating baked goods. Somewhere in the last week or so I got it into my head that I should try and make a cobbler/crisp/crumble dessert with some of the rhubarb I had previously stewed up. For this attempt I used oat bran, ground flax, whey protein concentrate, ground almonds and some butter. It was quite tasty but the rhubarb, having been frozen was very runny and the mixture sunk in so very little of it was actually crispy.
A dollop of whipped cream on the still hot crumble was a lovely dessert and the 'recipe' came in at just 200 calories per serving.
That gave me a total of 1,576 for the day and 38g carbohydrates.

Remember last Monday I set a goal to have 4 days in the next 7 under 1,500? Since I didn't make it today, tomorrow is my last chance. On the other hand I still haven't come up with a reward if I do manage. Still... wish me luck.
