Not the best day

Last night after finishing my blog I had a glass of Grape Crush sweetened with Splenda.
This morning I started with (surprise!) coffee.
Went to exercise/physio and was quite hungry on my return. More coffee and an omelet (3 eggs, mushrooms, a little onion and a bit of mozzarella) and bacon.
First break at work, sore all over and out of sorts. Drank more coffee while icing knee and foot.
Here is yesterday's tuna salad and avocado that waited in the fridge at work for me.
The usual vegetables.
Even after several ibuprofen and some nourishing food I felt pretty miserable and achy. Had more coffee and 1/2 of the Atkin's Almond Brownie bar that was in my purse theoretically for emergencies. I know it's not real food and I should avoid this kind of stuff but sometimes when I'm craving a muffin or pancakes or some such they keep me going.
For my late evening break I ate the sugar-free jell-o and a piece of cheese.
Coming home from work at 9pm is always difficult. Had a diet root-beer and some salami (40g)

Lunch out with Mom at Bon Sushi

I should have known from the start today was going to be unusual when I decided to have yogourt and strawberries for breakfast (125ml yog & 40g berries). I also had a hard-boiled egg for extra protein and my usual big mug of coffee.Less protein for breakfast made quite a difference. By 11:15 I was quite hungry and wolfed down some of my celery, a radish and my bit of cheese as well a most of my thermos of coffee.
To make matters worse we had cookies in the workroom. I had black tea, that's my little cup on the right. I didn't have any cookies. Had they been homemade I would have had more trouble resisting.
Met Mom at the new Sushi restaurant just around the corner from work. While I had planned to have miso soup then go back to work for my tuna salad etc. I ended up ordering two pieces of maguro nigiri. The tuna was okay but there was no wasabi on the rice. I had considered just eating the fish off the top like sashimi but the lumps of rice were pretty small so I decided to eat the whole thing and skip the lunch waiting for me in the fridge at work. It was a nice treat but not the best sushi. That's actually a good thing as I won't be too tempted to go back there.
On the other hand the miso soup was as good as any I've had and I also orderd the only other non-carby thing on the menu, seaweed salad. While I'm sure there was a little sugar in the dressing it was such a small portion I wasn't particularly worried.
After bringing the bill we were presented with two small slices of watermelon. I had one small bite from the sweet centre. I'm guessing 10 grams worth.
Returning to work with fish and seaweed breath I popped two Dentyne ice mints before going on desk.
My skimpy lunch was apparent by 3:30 by which time I was having serious tummy rumbles. I had a turkey pepperoni stick and the rest of the veg I had brought to go with my tuna salad.
Still very hungry by the time I got home. Immediately put some cauliflower on to saute and warmed up 140g of the left-over pot roast as well as four of the little carrots.
Having eating earlier than usual I needed a bit more. While my carbs are way over today (58g) my calories are still quite low. I portioned out a couple of bits of cheese (60g) total and another 40g of strawberries for a total of 1,420 calories today.

I think I over did it yesterday.

While I felt tiredly righteous after my workout yesterday I now realize I pushed myself too hard. My biceps are sore and my lower back a little twingey.
Coffee and flax bun made with a few chopped walnuts, a teaspoon of cocoa powder and a packet of splenda.
Morning break, not particularly hungry so just coffee.
Throat's still not all better. Had a Herbon lozenge.

Lunch is 100g of chicken with a tablespoon of mayo a few capers and some sweet La Chinata smoked paprika. Today I tried a slightly smaller portion size on the chicken salad with no ill effects. Also you will see the familiar celery, radish, jicama combo and jell-o.
Afternoon break finished the coffee and had a slice of cheddar (34g) and two butterscotch sugar-free candies.
Dinner was slow-cooker pot roast. I threw in some celery root, mushrooms and carrots and some of the Cabernet left from Sunday dinner. After removing the veg I used a hand blender and a little xanthan gum to make a bit of gravy from the liquid left in the pot. I had 120g of the beef 30g of mushrooms and some of the celery root which I didn't half finish because it was too woody. Also the regular side salad.
While I was waiting for dinner I decided to include a portion of fruit and cheese as dessert even though I didn't eat it until almost two hours afterwards. Canteloupe 50g, strawberries 30g and camembert 30g. Waiting that long also gives the cheese time to warm up a bit, yum.

While watching TV I found myself wanting to grind my teeth so I had a couple more of the sugar-free candies. This time maple flavour.Calories for the day 1,612 and only 28g net carbs.

Busy day

Up at 8 am to an earthquake? No, it's a machine that scrapes the surface off the asphalt two stories down and 40 metres over. Coffee.
Want something light before we head out to do some shopping. One hard-boiled egg and 125ml (1/2 cup) yogourt.

Back from clothes shopping. Found several pieces a size smaller than a couple of months ago and most of them were on sale! Home for an omelet made with 2 eggs, the leftover grilled zucchini from last night's dinner and about 40g of smoked gouda grated on top.
Off to physiotherapy/exercise. Worked very hard. Quick snack before we run out to do grocery shopping.
There's a Starbucks in my grocery store! Ordered one while waiting for Doug to turn up.
Roast chicken for dinner. My chunk of breast weighed exactly 150g. Also on the plate is a sauted portabello mushroom and about 20g of celeriac/celery root that's been sitting abandoned in the fridge since it was forgotten in the microwave during Saturday's dinner. Also usual side salad.
I was ready for some dessert but waited a couple of hours for the cantaloupe and camembert. They went beautifully together. Yum, yum!

Yay me! 1,388 calories and 35g net carbs for the day.

Mother's day in which I have my cake and eat it too

Up early, tidied house, drank coffee, showered, had a little Bresse bleu and a couple of strawberries and went out to the scooter meet.

Had a large americano (watered down espresso) at the Black Stilt.

Got home and started work on dinner. What with all the good smells I realized I was quite hungry. Knowing that dinner would be a little over the top I had a hard-boiled egg and some more of those little salami tidbitz for lunch. Also water.

There had been some discussion of Mother's Day Takeout if I couldn't get my act together, but with the help of the slow-cooker I managed to turn out a meal that included: Braised lamb shank in a Cabernet reduction, new potatoes with butter and parsley, grilled zucchini, green peas as well as baby carrots and a couple of hunks of jicama that were cooked with the lamb in the braising liquid. The wine was Tinhorn Creek 2003 Cabernet Franc which while good with the lamb and in the reduction left me underwhelmed in the glass.

On the left is my mother's plate with peas, new potatoes and lots of sauce. On the right my plate with three pieces of jicama, three baby carrots a chunk of zucchini. The photo also shows my side salad (nothing special).

For this special occasion (and because I didn't want to have to think about dessert) I picked up a small cake at the Village Patisserie - where I usually by coffee when at work. It was a vanilla sponge with lemon buttercream and Grand Marnier. The top was decorated with beige calla lilies and green leaves made of marzipan. I had a very small slice and before eating we stuck it on the scale for a total of 28g. No matter how I entered sponge cake and icing into fitday I couldn't get it over 100 calories - so maybe it wasn't.

While dinner left me quite full I certainly didn't over-eat and a few hours later (we had eaten around 5pm) I was seriously hungry. While my calories for the day were very low my carbs were quite high. Cake - whatcha gonna do? I had 30g of the old low-carb standby snack pork rinds and a big cup of Fresca.

Even later still feeling peckish and still in the 1,200 calorie range so I enjoyed a 125ml (1/2 cup) serving of cottage cheese with more pop and a couple of sugar-free Werthers to keep my mouth happy.

Totals for the day 1,355 calories and 50g net carbs. Lower than normal and cake. Wow!
